What is Shuffleboard? Rules & How to Play
When we talk shuffleboard, we mean business. Whether you’re a seasoned shuffleboard player or new to the game, this guide will help you understand the basics of shuffleboard and how to make sure you have an epic time and win ultimate bragging rights after your game at BOOM BATTLE BAR.
What is Shuffleboard?
You’d be surprised how often we get this question! Shuffleboard is a classic game that involves sliding our pink and blue pucks down a long table, topped with sand (to help your puck slide!), towards a scoring area at the opposite end. The aim is to get your pucks as close to the far edge of the table as possible without falling off. Think you’ve got what it takes?
Basic rules:
- Setup: Each player or team uses four pucks, in two different colours (pink & blue of course). Our BOOM teams help you with this bit and answer any questions!
- Scoring zones: The table is marked with scoring zones. The closest zone scores 1 point, the middle zones score 2 and 3 points, and the farthest zone scores 4 points. If a puck hangs over the far edge without falling off, you’re onto a winner, it’s called a “hanger” and scores extra points.
- Gameplay: Players take turns sliding one puck at a time. The goal is to land your pucks in scoring zones while attempting to knock your opponent’s pucks off the table or into lower scoring areas.
- Scoring: Played all pucks? Time to tally up the score. Only the pucks in the scoring zones count, and points are awarded based on the position of the pucks. Only the player or team with the puck closest to the edge scores points for that round.
- Winning: The game continues until a player or team reaches a predetermined number of points, typically 15, 21, or 25.
Shuffleboard can be played one-on-one or in teams, making it perfect for any group size and any occasion. It’s also a fun one to just watch others playing with a cold bevvy in hand.To ensure you get a spot, make sure you book your shuffleboard table in advance, especially during peak hours.
